Dental Checkups and Teeth Cleaning
A little prevention goes a long way when it comes to your dental health. Regular dental checkups and teeth cleanings are recommended every 6 months to maintain good oral health and prevent the development of serious problems that require additional, often invasive treatments. During a regular checkup, we may take x-rays or use a gentle dental probe to look for cavities and gingivitis, then visually inspect for signs of oral cancer and jaw/bite issues. For your teeth cleaning, a dental hygienist will use a tool called a scaler to remove tartar buildup, pair a polishing tool with a mildly abrasive paste to remove any plaque or surface stains, and give you a fluoride treatment to help strengthen your tooth enamel. Not only will your teeth look great after a cleaning, they will be protected against decay.
Fillings are one of the most common dental procedures and virtually painless. Most often used to treat cavities and repair worn or cracked teeth, fillings are available in an array of materials to fit your needs and budget including gold, silver amalgam, porcelain, and composite resin. To apply a filling, we will first numb the area with a local anesthetic. We’ll then remove the damaged dental tissue with a dental drill or laser before applying the filling.
